Alternative Budget Attractive Alternative to Obama’s $3.6 trillion Budget; Will Blue-Dog Democrats Bite?

Obama’s Budget
- Spends $9.3 Trillion over 10 years
- Doubles U.S. Debt in 5 years, Triples it in 10 years
- Debt will be $17.3 Trillion by 2019, or 82.4% of GDP
- Entitlement Spending increases by $1.4 Trillion over 10 years
- Increases non-defense spending by 9% in 2010
- Debt exceeds 100% of GDP by 2030
- Increases taxes by $1.5 Trillion
- Imposes National Energy Tax through cap and trade proposal which will cost average family $1,600/yr.
Republican Alternative Budget
- Deficit is $3.3 Trillion less than Obama’s budget over 10 years
- Borrows $3.6 Trillion less, which is 65.1% debt-to-GDP ratio
- Total Spending – Spends $4.8 Trillion less than Mr. Obama over 10 years
- Puts the brakes on Entitlement Spending by slowing the average annual growth in mandatory spending from 5.3% to 3.9%
- Long term, begin reforms to address viability issues of Medicare and Social Security
- Reduces Corporate tax from 2nd highest in industrialized world to 25%, and reforms tax code
- Permanently extends 2001 and 2003 tax relief, and fixes the Alternative Minimum Tax
- Tax Incentives to use private capital to unfreeze credit markets and encourage private sector job growth and investments
In an interview Wednesday on FoxNews, Rep. Paul Ryan (R- WI), ranking Republican on the House Budget Committee, said, “Let’s get our spending under control….We just don’t think you can borrow and spend your way into prosperity.”
