Health Care Reform’s Blunt Force Trauma
Private health insurers have a good reason to be worried about health care reform, Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) said in a speech in Chicago on April 18, 2009.
Telling her cheering audience about an insurance company representative who told Ms. Schakowsky, “It wouldn’t let the private insurance compete. A public (health care) option will put the private insurance out of business.” She acknowledged, “He was right, the man was right….I said, excuse me sir. The goal of health care reform is not to protect the private health insurance industry.”
“I am so confident in the superiority of a public health care option that he has every reason to be frightened,” Ms. Schakowsky said amid cheers from her audience.
Now, does this mean Pres. Barack Obama and the Democratic majority want to push private insurers out of business with health care reform, and assume complete control over the health insurance sector?
If so, the American people should be frightened. Are you?
