Make It Happen: Turn Back Obama’s Change

2009 April 29

There’s no hope for change unless dissatisfied Americans stand up for what they believe in.

At the 100 day mark, not everyone is lovin’ Pres. Barack Obama’s presidential moves. In fact, Obama may not realize that he is ticking off a number of Americans who voted for him.

So to those Americans who are dissatisfied and fed up with Obama’s presidency, there’s only one thing to do: Get involved. And get involved now. There will be 36 U.S. senate elections in 2010, and all the Representatives will have to campaign for re-election. If you’re not happy with your senators or representatives, well, then, either campaign for someone you’d be happy representing you and upholding the U.S. Constitution, or run for office yourself. The National 912 Project is a website devoted to helping regular Americans enact such a change.

For those of us who remember Pres. Ronald Reagan, and think America can never recover from the current Democratic majority, Robert Stacy McCain has an excellent analysis on the American Spectator blog on this very subject.

“One thing that has been consistent in recent American political history: There have always been many men like Douthat and Chait who sit around Washington observing and commenting on trends, and then there have been those rare men who make trends happen. “I do not believe in a fate that will fall on us no matter what we do. I do believe in a fate that will fall on us if we do nothing.” Ronald Reagan, 1981

Whether or not a conservative resurgence is likely, it can only be accomplished by those who begin with the assumption that it is possible, and then work tirelessly to turn possibility into reality.

Obama was handed an amazing amount of power by Cheney and Bush. He’s exercising it in the aftermath of a historic ass whipping in two consecutive elections, so you can pretty well figure he’s got a mandate. If I could stress one thing here: There’s a reason Reagan is fetishized: He’s the last dude who could appeal to moderates and conservative Democrats.

Right now, Rush is urging the rest of the moderates to leave the party as well. The GOP is aging, guys. Do you want Rush recruiting for you or Meghan McCain?

    As to reversing changes?

I don’t want to reverse the torture ban, the timetable for Iraq, the stance toward Afghanistan and implementing Gates’ plan for the DoD. I’d also like to make sure we bring our energy infrastructure up to date. Maybe we can even get some of our Constitutional Rights back.

    I’m a dreamer, I know.

You are not going to be taken very seriously when you say things like “fetishized.” I would also assume you are crediting Bush I’s 1988 victory over Dukakis to Reagan. I will go out on a limb and state that the GOP love for Reagan was not because of his appeal to Democratic voters, but because of his implementation of GOP policies. As to a choice between Rush or Meaghan McCain– um… what’s my third choice?

I won’t call it a fetish, although I do find these types of pictures humorous.
