Pelosi Denies Knowing about Waterboarding; Paper Trail Contradicts
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is between a rock and a hard place.
As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Ms. Pelosi has come under fire in recent weeks as to whether she knew about the enhanced interrogation techniques (EITs), in particular, waterboarding. Vigorously denying she knew waterboarding was being used as an enhanced interrogation technique, Ms. Pelosi was wide-eyed as she replied to a reporter’s question on the interrogation method briefings: “We were not, I repeat renot [sic] told that waterboarding or any other of these other enhanced interrogation methods were used.”
One need only watch the first minute or so of this video to get the gist of Ms. Pelosi’s stance of being uninformed on EITs.
However, the paper trail from the CIA says otherwise. Human Events reports:
According to the memo the very first briefing listed is 9/4/02 with then Rep. Porter Goss & Pelosi. The summary of the briefing says:
“Briefing on EITs including use of EITs on Abu Zubaydah, background on authorities, and a description of the particular EITs that had been employed.”
Hmmm. So Ms. Pelosi was briefed about EITs and what those Enhanced Interrogation Techniques involved. Confused?
